- HDB Rewiring In Singapore
Land scarcity is a very real problem for Singapore, which explains the ever-increasing land costs and property prices. The majority of the residential housing developments in Singapore are publicly governed and developed, and home to over 50% of the resident population. In recent years, the resale HDB estate demands is becoming more and more popular! Well, there are factors to consider whether you want to get a new HDB or a resale HDB. If you are choosing the latter one, rewiring is the first essential step for you to take before you move in to your new space.
It is always advisable to do a thorough check and total repair when you move in to a resale unit. Chances are there will be socket outlet damage, cracked insulation, general wear and tear, outdated wiring, and overheated electrical points. It is very likely that new electrical points are required in the new space during the transformation.
There are 4 tips for you to consider before you kick start your rewiring project.
Upgrade the main service panel to at least 100 amps. Outdated or overwhelmed electrical panels are a main cause of electrical fires. You may see functional problems such as dim or flickering lights. Most importantly, having such a panel represents a danger to your family and home. It will protect your home from fires caused by a faulty electric system.
Install dedicated circuits in the service panel for each of the home’s major appliances. A dedicated circuit means this circuit is set aside for a specific purpose, with its own circuit breaker in the electrical box. Generally, a dedicated circuit is intended for use with a single appliance or outlet, usually in major electrical appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, and electric water heaters. If an electrical appliance without a dedicated circuit draws more current than the circuit can handle, it may result in tripping breakers, blowing fuses, or worse scenario is overheating wire insulation causing fire hazards.
Space electrical outlets which are six to eight feet apart throughout the house, this distance is a general measurement for reference. There are international standard which states that there should be an electrical outlet in every kitchen, bedroom, living room, and any other room with dedicated living space. Guidelines state that for each electrical outlet, how far it should be off the floor. That will eliminate the need to run extension cords. If you don’t have to overstretch to use an appliance, there’s less risk of hazard.
Install outlets with ground-fault circuit interrupters in the kitchen, bathrooms and outdoors. A ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) can help prevent electrocution, and usually installed where electrical circuits may accidentally come into contact with water. When get wet, these outlets will shut themselves down to prevent an electrical shock.
Electrical wiring is a system of electrical components and wiring which enables the control and distribution of electrical energy in a structure. It often comprises of circuit breakers, electrical outlets (receptacles), light switches, fan switches, junction boxes, wall switches, lighting fixtures and devices to distribution of electrical energy in household appliances. It seems simple but it is dangerous to carry out without sufficient electrical knowledge.
